Silex Technology: Wireless Expertise for Reliable Connectivity

David Smith, CEO
Wireless technology is rapidly evolving, and is playing an increasing role in the lives of people throughout the world. The new functionalities of wireless technology are finding them new use cases in non-consumer devices such as medical devices, and telematics. However, in these areas, customers encounter issues in terms of connected reliability, and enterprise security. Silex Technology is an embedded network technology company that leverages hardware and software expertise to provide products for complex network connectivity applications. “We specialize in local area network and wireless technologies, providing software modules or turnkey products,” says David smith, CEO, Silex Technology.

Headquartered in South Midvale, UT, Silex supports its customers’ wireless needs and transforms products into secure, reliable wireless devices and machines to deliver a completely connected, always-on experience. As an exclusive Qualcomm Atheros Authorized Design Center, the company creates a customized, reliable network connectivity solution for specific requirements and provides support from design through deployment.

“We produce an array of solutions in hardware and software including pre-certified radio modules for flexible migration and intelligent modules that run a customer’s application and handle the load of wireless communication within the network,” said Smith. Silex’s Evaluation Kits (EVKs) are fully integrated, connectivity products which allow a customer to experience the technology and assess their needs to add wireless capabilities into their product. Additionally, Silex’s other products in the connectivity arena offer customers the opportunity to add wireless via an external box solution in a bridge serial device server or USB device server. All of these solutions use the company’s embedded modules that provide high reliability and enterprise security that customers require.

Silex Technology’s main focus is on hardware at the chip or module level, leaving the software and product integration to the customer. With relentless attention to quality, access to Qualcomm Atheros expertise, in-house manufacturing, and strategic partnerships with leading Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) and semiconductor providers, the firm maintains its strengths in reliable connectivity solutions.
Silex is unique in its position to provide multiple levels of engagement whereas many of its competitors offer only two aspects of wireless expertise for the customer. With Silex Technology, the customer gets a single vendor that provides hardware and software support from design through manufacturing for a successful product. For instance, consider the case of Delphi Display systems, a digital signage hardware, software, and services provider. They needed a reliable, low-maintenance wireless communication solution to develop a digital signage product. Using Silex Technology’s high-quality, multicast video distribution technology to wirelessly distribute synchronized, full-HD video from one source to multiple locations, the client found a reliable video distribution solution for digital signage. Furthermore, Delphi required a new vendor to provide the AV networking component for its new ruggedized display system. “Our recently developed X1 Multicast Video Distribution System (MVDS) provided an ideal solution for Delphi, giving much greater reliability compared to their prior vendor’s solution. It helped in distributing HD video and stereo audio streams across wired and wireless Ethernet-based networks,” said Smith.

Moving forward, Silex recently launched the SX-ULPAN— an ultra-low-power Wi-Fi module with dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n and industrial temperature support, which is their first module in the IoT space. Furthermore, the firm is designing many additional wireless modules to meet the expanding needs of the market.
